Carver 9th Curriculum Night

Dear 8th grade students and parents,

Today, Monday, February 16th from 5:30 – 7pm, Carver 9th Grade Academy will have a curriculum showcase. We invite all 8th grade students and parents to attend this important event as students prepare to transition into 9th grade next school year. 

Families will have the opportunity to meet Carver 9 staff, explore elective options, and learn more about courses for 2026-2027. This week, Carver 9th Grade Academy staff will also visit Dothan Preparatory Academy to assist students with 9th grade registration and answer any questions.

Again, this event is open to 8th grade students and parents todayMonday, February 16th from 5:30-7.

Estimados estudiantes de 8.º grado y padres de familia:

Hoy, lunes 16 de febrero, de 5:30 a 7:00 p.m., Carver 9th Grade Academy llevará a cabo una presentación del plan de estudios. Invitamos a todos los estudiantes de 8.º grado y a sus padres a asistir a este importante evento mientras se preparan para la transición al 9.º grado el próximo año escolar.

Las familias tendrán la oportunidad de conocer al personal de Carver 9, explorar las opciones de materias electivas y obtener más información sobre los cursos para el año escolar 2026-2027. Esta semana, el personal de Carver 9th Grade Academy también visitará Dothan Preparatory Academy para ayudar a los estudiantes con la inscripción al 9.º grado y responder cualquier pregunta.

Dothan City Schools Encourages Community Feedback on Superintendent Dr. Garrick Askew’s 100-Day Report

Dothan City Schools is inviting parents, guardians, and community members to share their feedback on Superintendent Dr. Garrick Askew’s 100-Day Report, which was officially released on November 24, 2025. The report outlines Dr. Askew’s early observations from multiple community listening sessions, national education expert analysis, and strategic initiatives for strengthening student success and district operations.

To continue fostering transparency and community engagement, the district has created a dedicated email address where stakeholders can submit comments on the report and its strategic initiatives, which the DCS board of education will vote on December 16th.

100-Day Report

At the end of November, Dothan City Schools Superintendent, Dr, Garrick Askew, released his 100-Day Report. The report compiles extensive data gathered through multiple community listening sessions, more than 100 school and classroom visits, one-on-one meetings with students, staff, community members, business leaders, and families, and independent evaluations conducted by national experts in literacy, mathematics, and special education. The result is a comprehensive roadmap that outlines what the district has accomplished, where improvement is needed, and which proposed strategic initiatives will guide DCS in the near future.
